The telephone companies get you two ways: they charge you for
providing telephone lines and then they charge you again for using them. By and
large, outside some restrictive service packages, telephone calls are metered
and charges are levied based on distance and duration.
There are two scenarios for call charging in
the VoIP world:
- intra PBX
- Public switched Network
Intra PBX calls are those that you make between
the users on your PBX, whether those users are local, in a remote office or
site, working at home or on the other side of the world. All these calls are
free of charge.
Public switch network calls are those you make
to peiople who are not part of your VoIP PBX, such as your customers and
suppliers. These calls are generally charged at a lower rate than BT's rack
rate tariff, with the greatest reduction in call charges coming from calls to
foreign countries.
Many organsiations are reporting 30% tp 40%
