Who we are

Bewcastle Consulting was set up in 2001 by Joe Barrett and Mike Borshell, both of whom have extensive experience of the IT and telecomms market. With in excess of 70 years experience between them, they have worked on every aspect of IT and telecomms. Past employers include major blue chip enterprises: Shell petroleum, British Telecom, Philips Electronics, The Home Office, Unisys Corporation.

Mike Borshell is a founder director of Bewcastle Consulting and has over 30 years service in the IT Industry. With Bewcastle his focus is on bringing the practical lessons that he has learned to help companies, of whatever size, in achieving their business objectives.

He has had a broad range of experience including:
  • UK Sales & Marketing Director of a Data Networking Company
  • UK Sales Training Manager for Dutch multinational
  • Partnership Manager - GB & Europe for a US Multinational System Company
  • Programme Manager for a GB & Europe wide BPM programme with t/o of $100+
  • Project Manager for a £20m Financial Services Software Development
  • New product development for a Securities Software product, from its conception to initial sales
  • Internal and external consultancy commissions.

Joe Barrett has worked in the IT and telecomms buisness for more than 35 years. He was most recently the chief architect for Unisys International Banking Services Centre where he had responsibility for the design of Unisys CRM offerings. He has spoken at Butler Group conferences in London, and the US and at the Component Computing Symposium in Stockholm.

He has worked across the whole project lifecycle of IT and telephony projects including:

  • Project Management of multi-million pound IT projects
  • General Software management for a major European company
  • Communications design and programming at the Home Office
  • Customer consultancy services
  • Equipment and lineplant capacity planning for British Telecom
